With our one-year anniversary on May 14, 2020, there’s no time better than the present to double-down on our commitment to help provide women of color affected by breast cancer with tools, resources and community to overcome the barriers to quality healthcare.
With that in mind, we’ve redesigned our website and added new features to continue to build bridges and increase the representation of women of color in the larger breast cancer community.
The Baddie Directory
For the last year, we’ve worked with several national nonprofits and researchers to connect their resources to women of color and vice versa. The problem is we’ve been doing this on a one-to-one basis and we needed a way to scale the connection between everyone involved.
So we’ve created a dynamic, searchable directory for women of color affected by breast cancer. Women can share aspects of their breast cancer journey and express interest in everything from research and advocacy to special events and modeling.
Looking for a metastatic Latina living in Texas with a genetic mutation? That’s how deep we hope to be able to dive into identifying women of color in the breast cancer community interested in engagement opportunities.
Of course, the success of this project solely depends on the participation and reception from the breast cancer community. You can click here if you’d like to add yourself to the directory. Together, we can lower the barriers to increasing diversity and inclusion in the breast cancer community.
Community Calendar
On our previous website, we had a very manual way of adding events to our calendar. Manual meaning we’d add what we came across if we remembered to — eek!
Thanks to our upgrade, you can now submit your own events AND opportunities to our community calendar. Virtual events, fundraisers, model calls etc., we’d like to create a regular listing of opportunities that may interest our Breast Cancer Baddies. We’ll also do our best to include upcoming community events in our monthly newsletter.
Connection Center
This section of the website is still evolving, but the goal is to create one page where users can access the Baddie Directory, community events, advocacy opportunities and more. You can check it out here and see if there’s anything you’d like to contribute at the moment.
Blog Submissions
You wouldn’t believe our editing and uploading process when we accepted blog submissions via email and Google Docs. So we’ve streamlined the submission process with a simple online form accessible through our new website.
Coming Soon
You may have seen the placeholder on our homepage for our new partnership with FORCE and Project XRAYS. Just know we couldn’t be more excited to partner with FORCE to bring our Baddies relevant research articles written in an easily digestible manner. Knowledge is power and we hope this new partnership will equip our Baddies with accurate information to inform their treatment and lifestyle decisions.
With one year down and many more to go, we’d like to thank everyone for their support during our first year online. We can promise you the best is yet to come.
