Grieving the friends we love and the bodies we’ve lost
Do you feel guilty because you survived but she did not? How do you pick up the pieces of yourself once someone or a part of you is gone?

As minorities, the last thing we want to do is admit that we need help; especially when it comes to mental health treatment.
As both a young woman and a black woman affected by breast cancer, I have dual citizenship in communities who are often dismissed and overlooked in the medical community.
So, when I saw a tweet by @gypsynomy (C.J. Jackson) about @thebreastofus and her delay in reconstruction, I was moved to reach out to offer “breasts” to any followers who would benefit from soft prosthetics.
For us women, our hair is our beauty…..I was one of those women.
My womanhood had nothing to do with the hair on my head. The removal of my breasts did not subtract from the sum of my womanhood. In fact, breast cancer taught me just how much of a woman I really am.
I still look in the mirror and get down on myself because of how much my physical appearance was altered. But I have accepted that It’s all a process and we are what we make of it.
I wanted to talk about it; I wanted to cry about it. I just couldn’t. I felt like a part of me that I never knew existed was taking over my life and I had nowhere and no one to turn to.
Transitioning to a non-toxic lifestyle can be overwhelming. Especially if you’ve never done it before, but don’t you fret! I’m here to give you five easy steps on how you can start!
….living with a life-threatening illness, makes me focus more on how I’m spending my time and energy. Life is short, and not to be wasted.
Your voice, your story, and your support can make a difference. Join For the Breast of Us in our mission to empower, support, and advocate for women of color across the globe. Together, we can create a future where every woman has the resources and support she needs to overcome breast cancer.
