5 Simple ways you can start living a non-toxic lifestyle

I’ve had a passion for non-toxic living before my cancer diagnosis. I did juice cleanses, only shopped at Whole Foods, and ate organic. And guess what, I still got cancer. Survivorship and motherhood has taken its toll on my body. A lot of change happened in such a short amount of time and I was literally in survival mode. Navigating survivorship and motherhood over the last few years has been no easy task, but today I am focused on getting my health back and I want that for you, too!

Transitioning to a non-toxic lifestyle can be overwhelming. Especially if you’ve never done it before, but don’t you fret! I’m here to give you 5 easy steps on how you can start!

1) Switch & Ditch

The best way to start is by using the “switch & ditch” method. I don’t want you to waste your money. So once you run out of a household product, replace it with something cleaner. You can start with simple products like deodorant, toothpaste, shampoo, and household cleaners.

2) Drink Water

Drink half your body weight in ounces every day. Water helps your body flush out those nasty toxins that your body is exposed to on a daily basis. Try to drink filtered water and stay away from plastic containers, as foreign particles can creep into your water. Glass or stainless steel containers are best. Bonus points if you add lemon! Lemon helps detoxify the body.

3) Gut Health

Our gut is the foundation to good health. Have you ever noticed your emotions affect your digestion? Butterflies, nausea, gut-wrenching feelings? Our gut plays a huge role in our physical and even mental health. Eat green leafy veggies, healthy proteins, and healthy fats. Reduce inflammatory foods like sugar, gluten, dairy, and caffeine. A good supplement to take is a high quality probiotic that your body properly absorbs. It literally helps you get rid of the shit you don’t need!

4) Deodorant

Your skin is the biggest organ you have. Everything you put on it will be absorbed into your body. When choosing a natural deodorant make sure that it’s free from aluminum and parabens. DoTERRA’s Balance Deodorant is my favorite, it smells like a spa, and it actually works! Some natural deodorants leave your armpits feeling “wet”, but this one doesn’t! It’s made from baking soda and arrowroot and is infused with frankincense essential oil which is known to support cellular function, something that you want near all those lymph nodes!

5) Cleaning Products

Did you know you can make your own cleaning products? It’s easier, healthier, and cheaper than buying conventional cleaning products. This simple recipe will keep you and your family from inhaling toxic fumes and protect them from being absorbed into your skin. When making your own cleaning products, it’s best to use any citrus oil. Essential oils eat through plastic so it’s important to use a glass container. I bought mine from Amazon!

I personally use Doterra’s OnGuard concentrate cleaner. Two tablespoons in a 16 oz of water.

I hope you found these tips helpful. Remember, don’t overwhelm yourself. Take it one step at a time. Even if you just choose to do one of these tips per month, you are taking the right steps to reducing your toxic load! You’ll get there and your body will thank you!
